Sphinx Caterpillar

While weeding my flower garden, I happened upon this unusual and beautiful caterpillar. Soon it will become Wisconsin's largest flying moth, the white-lined sphinx. The moth has a four inch wingspan and hovers over and slips between flowers similar to a hummingbird. Over the years I have spotted Sphinx moths on Eighty Acres as they dance upon the garden's cone flowers or at night, spinning furiously around the porch light. But I have never been able to capture a good photo. If they would just slow down or sit still, the moth photo would become much easier to capture! But I'll keep trying. Maybe with a little luck and patience I'll be successful this summer.
