Each year dozens of Dahlias are planted and grown on Eighty Acres. They are my favorite flower and come in over 40 varieties with blossoms ranging in size from 2-12 inches. Dahlia's history goes back to the Aztecs where the tubers were used both as a food source and medical treatments. Today the beautiful flower is a rich source of nectar for the Eighty Acres butterflies, bees, and birds. The Dahlia was named the national flower of Mexico in 1963. So, in like fashion ...today I am naming the Dahlia as the flower of the month on Eighty Acres!
